What is Tambulam?
Tambulam is a perfect amalgamation of betel leaf, betel nut, chunnambu or sunnam or lime, coconut and any sweetner. Tambulam is mainly seen in religious offerings to gods and goddesses in rituals, marriages and other auspicious ceremonies. We often see married couple eating tambulam or pan after having food. The main ingredient of Tambulam is betel leaf which has enormous medicinal qualities and religious importance too. Our holy scriptures say that betel nut is associated with Goddess Lakshmi. It is known as Nagavalli leaf which is a transformed word, Nakavalli. Nakavalli roughly translates in to the leaf which came from heaven. Betel leaf is also known as the Heart of Nature as it contains countless health benefits.
