Parama Shiva

2. Meaning of manifestation of Lord Shiva

Lord Shiva appears with ash smeared all over his body, with a skull in his hand, dreadlocked hair and wearing elephant skin. He is known as the aadi yogi. From him emerged all the yoga sutras which we practice today. There much more in the yoga than what we do and see. The secrets are only revealed with the proper worship of Lord Shiva.

And there are other things which Lord Shiva wears. They are very peculiar to other gods and goddesses apart from fierce goddesses. Lord Shiva wears crescent moon on his head, holds a trident on one hand, a snake around his neck, the famous third eye, drum or damarukam and a bull on which he travels.
